Marijuana Possession Charges in SC: Man Hid 41 Baggies of Marijuana in Underwear
Although one type of medical marijuana is technically legal in South Carolina – cannabidiol, an oil extract that does not contain THC, the compound in marijuana that intoxicates the user – no other type of marijuana use is legal in SC, and in July, two major pot busts led to marijuana possession charges in SC.
On Wednesday, July 9th, a Rock Hill man was arrested when police found 41 baggies of marijuana in his underwear.
Kim Leonard Grafton, Jr, a 26-year-old Rock Hill resident, was pulled over for an improper wide turn. As officers approached his vehicle, they could smell marijuana. According to the police report, the officer asked driver Emory McCullough for his license, insurance, and registration information, and McCullough reached for the glove compartment but went for a semi-automatic handgun inside, so the officers drew their service weapons and asked both McCullough and Grafton to step out of the car.
The arresting officers searched Grafton and McCullough, initially they found nothing on either of them. However, when the two were in the patrol car, officers could still smell marijuana. When Grafton stepped out of the car, the smell went away. Officers conducted a strip search when the two arrived at the Rock Hill City Jail, and found 41 individual baggies with around 5 grams of marijuana total, in Grafton’s underwear, along with $315 in cash.
McCullough was arrested and charged with marijuana possession charges in SC; Grafton was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
