Deputies said they were responding to a report about drugs at the residence. When officers approached the home, they reported that they smelled marijuana, and heard loud talking coming from inside. When they knocked, no one answered.

They also said they saw smoke billowing off the balcony of the residence. When they investigated, they discovered that the smoke was coming from 60 grams of marijuana being burned on a charcoal grill.

Deputies found drug pharaphernalia in plain sight in the apartment. They also saw firearms displayed openly, including a Mossburg 12 gauge shotgun, a New England Firearms H&R 1871, a Rock Island Armory 9MM pistol, and a Norinco SKS rifle.

“It is with the help of citizens like the one who made this single phone call that enables deputies to take thugs like this off the streets,” said Sheriff Leon Lott. “It’s the one who takes that step to make a difference in their community.  That one step is a giant leap for a better life we all want.”

The six men were arrested on gun and drug charges, and have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Lott said that the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are forthcoming.
