Lexington County Man Busted for Operating Meth Lab After Leading Police on Short Chase
Another Lexington County resident was busted for operating a meth lab out of his home.
Deandre Malcom Black, 38, who lived on Two Notch Road near Lexington, was arrested on Monday, September 23rd, for operating a meth lab out of his house. Not only does he face a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine, but he also faces outstanding warrants for failing to make child support payments.
Sheriff James R. Metts reported that a tip about the house led officers to investigate the residence at about 10:30 PM on Monday night. When they arrived, deputies detected the typical strong chemical odor of a meth lab in operation. As they approached the home, they reportedly saw Black place an object in a black bag on his porch, and then flee through his backyard to the woods.
Deputies investigated the property and found a classic methamphetamine reaction vessel, along with bottles in black bags that could be used as reaction vessels. Meanwhile, officers chasing Black through the woods caught up with him and placed him under investigative arrest.
Narcotics investigators determined that Black did in fact use the vessels for methamphetamine production, and they dismantled and safely disposed of the objects, along with a scale and tools used to crush tablets.
Officers also found one small glass pipe, two clear glass tubes, one bag of coffee filters, one lighter, and work gloves on the porch.
Lexington County Continues Successful Campaign of Drug Busts on Meth Labs Throughout the County
Lexington County law enforcement officers announced, last fall, that they would begin a campaign to round up criminals who manufactured and distributed drugs, especially methamphetamines. Operations began in October 2012, with at least 13 reported arrests related to meth labs in Lexington County. Throughout the last year, officers arrested several more suspects for operating meth labs in West Columbia and Lexington.
