Rock Hill Student Arrested on Drug Charges for Selling Marijuana

On Tuesday, October 1st, South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, SC saw the arrest of their starting quarterback on drug charges, after the teenager was arrested for selling marijuana to fellow students.

Davonta Blake, 17, will not play South Pointe’s game against rival high school Northwestern this coming Friday, according to Rock Hill school’s spokeswoman Elaine Baker. The football star instead faces six drug charges after school officials found him with marijuana at school and in his bedroom at home, according to Rock Hill police spokesman Mark Bollinger.

It is unclear how school officials discovered the marijuana on Blake, said Bollinger. However, administrators did search the student and found seven wrapped packages of marijuana in a large prescription drug bottle. They also learned that Blake sold marijuana to another student, but it is unclear how much he sold, the weight of the marijuana, or the price for the drugs, all of which factor into the severity of the drug charges.

After Blake’s arrest on drug charges, investigators executed a search warrant on the student’s home. The joint investigation between the Rock Hill Police Department and the county’s multijurisdictional drug enforcement unit uncovered a mason jar in Blake’s room, which had 12 baggies of marijuana inside.

So far, the drug charges levied against Blake are: two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute; possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute in proximity to a school; possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute in proximity to a park; distribution of marijuana; and distribution of marijuana in proximity to a school.

Blake, a senior, has rushed 49 times for 254 yards and four touchdowns this season. He’s also thrown for 912 yards and eight touchdowns. Penalties for his arrest could be severe, ranging from suspension to recommendations for expulsion, along with the drug charges staying on his criminal record, which could affect his ability to go to college or receive scholarships.
