Elementary School Teacher Arrested for Serious Drug Charges

Summerville Teacher Possessed Drugs and Paraphernalia, Arrested on Drug Charges

An elementary school teacher in Summerville, South Carolina has been arrested for serious drug charges, and her bond set at $79,000.

According to reports, Terri Goldman Wooten, 49, of Ladson, SC, was one of two people arrested in her home on Wednesday, April 17th, following a drug raid.

When officers went into Wooten’s home, they found items used to cook meth, as well as 14 grams of powder that tested positive as methamphetamines. She also possessed a small amount of marijuana, 12 dosage units of LSD, and 46 Xanax pills.

David Eugene Cauthan, 37, also lives at the home Wooten was renting. He was arrested on the same drug charges.

She was charged with trafficking methamphetamines, distribution near a school, possession of a schedule IV narcotic, and possession of LSD, according to the Dorchester County newspaper.

Wooten was a 4th Grade Teacher at Summerville Elementary School. She has been put on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Neighbors and Parents Express Shock Over Drug Charges

A parent of one of Wooten’s students said that he was shocked, and she seemed like a nice woman.

“I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that putting her in that same picture as something like that happening,” says Scott Ziegler. “I can’t picture it really.”

One of Wooten’s neighbors said that the teacher had been renting the house for a few years, and he never suspected her of cooking meth or any other drug crimes.

“I never saw anything that would look like there were drugs going on,” says Clyde Gray, Wooten’s next door neighbor. “It never smelled like there was anything being cooked over there.”

However, another neighbor said that Wooten and Cauthan burned trash on a daily basis, that smelled like burning plastic.
