Marijuana Chocolate Sold in North Carolina School, 3 Arrested

Three People Arrested After Discovery of Marijuana Chocolate Sold at School

marijuanaThree people in Statesville, NC have been arrested, including a high school student and a middle school student, after the investigation of a complaint that chocolate, laced with marijuana, was being sold at a school.

On October 7th, officers from the Statesville Police Department Narcotics Division responded to a complaint from Statesville High School that a student was selling marijuana chocolate on school property. During the investigation, narcotics officers learned that the marijuana was being sold in the form of pieces of white and dark chocolate. A student was charged with the sale and delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation led officers to Statesville Middle School as well, where another student was arrested for the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A search warrant was issued for the students’ home, related to the incident, where officers found several pieces of paraphernalia and other contraband, including wrappers for the marijuana candy bars. Reportedly, an adult, Mary Blackwelder, obtained the marijuana-laced white and dark chocolate candy bars on a recent trip to California, which she gave to the minors living in the home when she returned.

The candy bars are legal for medical use in California, but are illegal in North Carolina.

Blackwelder was also arrested and charged with two counts each of sale and deliver of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to sell marijuana, child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was taken to Iredell County Jail and placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
